缪哲 在艺术史学者的书房里，欧文·琼斯（Owen Jones，1809-1874）的《装饰的语法》（The Grammar of Ornament）与《中国装饰集锦》（Examples of Chinese Ornament），是两部常见的书。 本NB里的图案，皆选自《中国装饰集锦》。琼斯的序说：“中国新近的战争，及太平（天国）之乱，使许多公共建筑遭洗劫，或夷为丘墟；富丽的装饰艺术品，亦因此流入欧洲。这些作品，是以前罕见的。其夺人目者，不仅在工艺的精能，亦在色彩的和谐，与装饰的通体之完美。” 然则琼斯成书，是以太平天国运动导致的中国工艺品流散为因缘的。从书取的图案看，这些工艺作品，似皆晚清的粉彩，或珐琅彩。这类作品，固有琼斯称的“富丽”与“精能”，但图案呆板，无即兴之趣，色彩肥腻，失淡雅之美。原其趣味，不过“满族大官”的“村婆娘好浓妆”，很不高明。琼斯采以成书，或因符合其主张的“通则”，亦或这些作品，可解慰当时人对东方想象的饥渴。 但琼斯的趣味，是较“满族大官”为雅正的。这一见于他选的图案中，颇有唐宋之风者，如不同式样的缠枝莲，即未失淡雅、即兴的唐宋之典型；二亦见于其纹样的色值，皆较原器的为低，故一扫原器“大红大紫”的肥腻，成一种“再创作”的佳范。 本册所选的，是书中最具特色的蓝色纹样，大家可以一窥东方与西方审美的完美结合。

基于综合性句法—语义界面的中动结构研究
本书在杰肯道夫概念语义学理论框架下对英汉中动结构的生成机制做了对比研究，建立了包括事件结构、物性结构和信息结构三个方面的综合句法语义界面。本书主要有以下创造性研究成果：首先，中动结构重新界定，扩大了中动结构的研究范围，避免了汉语中动结构研究对英语中动结构研究的牵强比附问题。其次，突破了形式语法的纯句法研究，采取了句法/语义界面研究，并以杰肯道夫平行框架理论为基础，建立了一个新的综合句法/语义界面，发展了句法/语义界面理论。再次，以综合句法/语义界面为理论模型，深入探讨了英汉中动结构的生成机制，对英汉中动结构生成的制约因素作了很好的解释。最后，提出英汉中动结构差异是由语言类型差异造成的，使得该研究具有语言类型学研究意义。
